Simple shaving tips for men and women

Shaving tips for men and women | Herbalife Beauty AdviceWith so many options for hair removal these days, here’s a guide to an original method of hair removal: shaving!

There are so many hair removal options, including waxing, threading, or permanent hair removal techniques. However, shaving is still a tried and true way to get rid of unwanted hair. Shaving is a topic of beauty that affects both men and women, though shaving needs between genders differ. So, I’m going to go through some ways you can get the best shave possible, whether it’s on your face or body.

Shaving tips for men:

Although there is nothing wrong with a rugged look or five o’clock shadow, sometimes a well-groomed, close shave is required.  I have nothing against beards either but a clean shave is always in style! Men have thicker skin on their face than women, so their shaving needs will, in turn, be different than women. Here are some shaving tips to help you get a clean, nick-free shave:

Shaving tip for men 1: Shave during or after showering

Warm water and steam from showers can soften your skin, making it ready for shaving. Shaving on dry skin puts you at risk for razor burn and nicks because your skin isn’t as susceptible to a blade. Plus, if you’re already in the shower, it’s also a great timesaver. Make sure you look out for a mist-free shower mirror!

Shaving tip for men 2: Swipe and rinse

It might take more effort to rinse your blade with each swipe, but your skin will thank you for it! Make sure to wash away debris on your blade after each stroke. You will get a cleaner shave and transfer less debris on your face with each stroke.

Shaving tip for men 3: Shave in the direction of hair growth

Shaving against the grain could give you a cleaner shave, but it could also result in more stubble and razor burn. You should always shave in the direction of hair growth on the face and neck to avoid shaving bumps. The skin on your neck is thinner than the skin on your face, so it’s especially important to pay attention to hair patterns when shaving on the neck to avoid getting bumps and razor burn.

Shaving tip for men 4: Moisturize after shaving

There are differing opinions on traditional aftershaves in the beauty industry, but most experts agree that a moisturizing gel or lotion will benefit men’s skin after shaving. And the last, step—don’t forget to wear an SPF!

Shaving tips for women:

Some of the same rules of shaving mentioned above apply to women too. These include making sure your skin is wet before shaving, moisturizing after shaving and rinsing your blade after each swipe. But, we all know ladies are special, so here are some more shaving tips that are a little more specific to women:

Shaving tip for women 1: Shave in various angles

For men, it’s recommended to shave the hair on their face in the direction of hair growth. However, if you’re shaving a body area, such as your legs, you will get a cleaner shave if you try various angles (in this case, from your ankles up).  The skin on your body is different to the skin on your face and won’t necessary get razor burn if you use a good blade.

Shaving tip for women 2: Find your best razor

Much like finding a personalized beauty routine, a particular razor may work better for you than others. Experiment with different razors to see which one works best for your needs. Make sure to always stick to razors designed for women because men have a different skin texture so blades for men are generally designed for their skin.  Make sure to change out your cartridge when your razor gets dull; and never share razors with anyone, it can be very unhygienic!

Shaving tip for women 3: Exfoliate

Many people assume that shaving is a form of exfoliating your skin, but it’s not. Regularly exfoliating the skin on your body with a scrub can help prevent ingrown hairs (when your hair grows in a direction towards your skin). An added benefit: exfoliating the skin on your body will also keep your skin soft!

Do you have any shaving tips that you use? I’d love to hear about them in the comments section. Happy shaving, everyone!
